Eye exams are essential for overall eye health. Using advanced diagnostic technology and vision correction, Dr. Lauer ensures improved quality of life in his patients.

Basic Eye Exams

Getting your eyes checked regularly is essential for overall eye health. How often you need the basic eye exam will depend in part on your age and also on your eyes and family history.
Typically, we recommend getting this exam once every year. During this exam, Dr. Lauer utilizes several different tests to determine if you are at risk or have any vision problems, such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy and more.

Contact Lenses Exams

Eye exams for contact lenses include special test that we generally do not perform in routine eye exams for eyeglasses. During your first contact lenses fitting exam, Dr. Lauer will test your visual acuity using an eye chart. A number of tests will also be performed to determine your eye health and whether prescription eyewear is required to correct refractive errors. Similar to shoes, one size does not fit all when it comes to contact lenses. If the curvature of a contact lens is too flat or too steep for your eye shape, you could experience discomfort or even damage to your eye. Therefore, contact lens fittings include cornea measurements, pupil and iris measurements, tear film evaluation and evaluation of your eye’s surface.

Contact Lenses Progress Exams

If you already wear contact lenses, we also offer follow up exams toc check to see if there are any changes to the strength of your vision. In addition, contact lenses progress exams are necessary to ensure the healthiest fit in your contact lenses.

Red Eye Exams

If you have a red eye, this needs to be examined because it is a sign of ocular inflammation. Conjunctivitis is the most common cause of red eye. Other common causes include blepharitis, corneal abrasion, foreign body, subconjunctival hemorrhage, keratitis, iritis, glaucoma, chemical burn and scleritis. If you have any of the following symptoms, schedule an appointment with your eye doctor here at Lauer Eye Care:

  • Eye discharge
  • Redness
  • Pain
  • Photophobia
  • Itching
  • Visual changes

Cataract Follow-ups

In most cases, cataract follow-up exams are scheduled for the day after surgery, one week after surgery, one month after surgery and three months after surgery. While the initial “post-op” exam the day after your surgery is often performed by your cataract surgeon, the other visits can be with your general eye care provider at Lauer Eye Care.

Lasik Pre-evaluations

Dr. Lauer can also perform Lasik pre-evaluations to determine if you are a good candidate for Lasik surgery. Your cornea needs to be adequately thick for Lasik as this surgery involves ablating the cornea and reshaping it. We can help you determine if Lasik surgery is right for you.

Lasik Follow-ups

Follow-up exams after your Lasik surgery are essential, even if you have perfect vision after this surgery. These exams help ensure proper healing and complication-free recovery.
